What do you think about the Buffy reboot?

In their infinite wisdom with regards to how to handle their older properties that are otherwise collecting dust and the occasional residual, Warner Bros. has decided to reboot Buffy the Vampire Slayer without bringing creator and still moving on up to the big time writer/director Joss Whedon on board. Upon reflecting on the news, Whedon is reported to have said:

“This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can’t think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.”

To add insult to injury, the writer they did bring in is a virtual unknown with no real professional credits to her name. Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that they have the integrity of the project in mind – and are instead racing to catch the last bit of the Twilight wave before its gone for good.

So what do you think? Terrible idea? Should Whedon be the only one to shepherd this project? Or should he set it free – if it doesn’t come back, it was never his to begin with?

  • Sad day for Buffy fans. Not that I am one but I could see a terrible end for this.

    • I know, right? Looks to me like they’re gonna bang off a saccharine Twilight-esque movie – and make their money while they can. Thing is, without Whedon’s involvement this movie is likely to come out exactly like the title suggests, a liaughable b-movie with barely any cult appeal. Not so bad that it’s good, just bad.
