Well, the way they make shows is, they make one show. That show’s called a pilot. Then they show that show to the people who make shows, and on the strength of that one show they decide if they’re going to make more shows. Some pilots get picked and become television programs. Some don’t, become nothing.

As we are knee-deep in premiere season, I thought this would be a great time to offer a little advice to those who are struggling to catch every premiere episode of every show they’re interested in. As is their nature, a pilot tries offer up a cross section of what its series is about, but there are a number of reasons why the picture it paints may not be the most accurate recreation.
