To borrow the expression from my esteemed colleagues is to barely do justice to how much I enjoyed screening the new trailer for Super 8. There is no limit to the magic that Spielberg and Abrams can create together, and I really dig that they’re bringing back the classic adventure with kids at the heart of the story and seeing the grown-up world through their own eyes. It’s like Goonies meets E.T. meets Close Encounters and looks totally wicked!
Couldn’t agree more. I had no idea what the movie was about before this trailer and now it has jumped into my “top 3 must see this summer list” I love that Kyle Chandler is playing a character so close to coach Taylor. This is going to rule.
Yeah, there is totally an FNL element at play here. If you’re gonna step off the football field, the closest you can get to the football coach is the local sheriff.

Having watched this I was almost ready to kncok TREE OF LIFE off its perch of “Most Anticipated Film of The Summer”.
…almost.
It’s got all the elements of great summer watching, but might have Tree of Life beat in the “feel good” department.
Great trailer, that’s the way it’s done. There is no need to spoil the entire movie and this only makes me want to see it even more.
Exactly! This is not only a trailer for a what looks to be a great film, but it’s also a great example of how to build a fanbase. I get the impression that either Abrams had a direct hand in making it himself, or he went to the same guy he got to do the theatrical Star Trek trailer. Teased out a story that is likely just one of many, bringing up the young love, mystery, coming of age, military, nostalgic elements in harmony.
Nice how you added The Goonies to E.T. and Close Encounters! I got more of a Stand By Be vibe but either way, this looks like one headed for the classics section of any movie library. CANNOT WAIT:)
Yeah, there’s a Stand By Me quality there, no doubt… either that or the Wonder Years! In a way I’m glad they don’t attempt this kind of film too often, it almost keeps it sacred in a way.
I can’t wait to see this film. I am officially INTERESTED.
