I liked the first trailer for The Green Hornet that came out a few months ago. But it didn’t make me go crazy. Now they have released a newer trailer and I think that this version captures the tone and look of the film. Michel Gondry is a genius and one of my favorite directors working today. Generally he marches to his own beat, so I was a little curious on how he could take an established character and make the movie his own. This trailer gives you more of a clue of all the tricks that he will be pulling out and making a visually striking comic book movie. Yes it stars Seth Rogen and love him or hate him, he seems perfect in the role of Brit Reid and I can’t wait to see how he pulls it off. So enjoy this trailer and prepare yourself for the first great movie of 2011.
The slow motion is a bit over the top but this is looking better than I initially thought after seeing the first trailer. Probably one of those movies I will wait for positive word of mouth first
You’ve gotta keep the faith in Michel Gondry! From his music videos, to Eternal Sunshine, to Be Kind Rewind, the man has laid down plenty of evidence that he can weave unexpected magic in front of and behind the camera. It’s hard to look past Seth Rogen – but keep in mind that Seth was part of the Apatow revolution, before it was even cool! (see Freaks & Geeks)
I really dig the “next level” post-modern angle the movie seems to be taking (based on the trailer anyway). In the original TV show, the Green Hornet wasn’t some ineffectual douche, he was a bonafide hero with an Asian manservant to back him up. It wasn’t until seeing the movie Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story that a new side of the Green Hornet was revealed, with it being clear that Bruce Lee was the main attraction compared to the show’s actual lead actor, Van Williams. That they’ve taken this vibe and gone and changed the character to suit this revisionist perception of the cast by putting Seth Rogen in the star slot is fantastic, changing the profile of the lead actor to fit the perception of how the original show was recieved, rather than how it was intended.
