It’s been a two week break that’s seemed like 22 months, but we’re back in full effect with our review of The Crazies on DVD and a very special guest too. Heather Roddy from Movie Mobsters is along for the ride and she’s brought a top 5 time travel movies list with her. We open up a sharing circle about Toy Story 3 and The A-Team, and we even have time to crack open the Vault for Blade Runner, 28 Days Later and Toy Story 1 & 2. That’s right, we’ve got all of this and even the trailers for The American, Predators and The Green Hornet.

I listened to it! Glad to hear you enjoyed the A-Team Heather Totally agree with Madeleine Stowe, she just sort of disappeared off the map. How weird!
Wasn’t Heather great? I think she was expecting more cheap shots…
Yeah, Madeleine Stowe’s disappearance might not have been a “tragedy” but it is a little strange. Maybe she headed to the stage to play Lady MacBeth in Reno or something.
Glad you listened in, dude.
I think she retired to have a family actually, or so is the word around the campfire.
She’s done a couple barely successful movies since her retirement, and even showed up in that Goldblum vehicle TV show Raines (which was actually not all that bad, BTW.)
I’d watch Jeff Goldblum sell toothpaste for an hour. I understand he’s an acquired taste for some, but I just love the guy.
His only misstep: Silverado. Come on, the two faced gambling Jewish cowboy? Lame!
…I met Jeff Goldblum a couple of years ago! I say ‘met’ – I went to see Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum in David Mamet’s play Speed The Plow at the Old Vic in London and went to the stage door afterwards to get autographs. Got both Spacey and Goldblum – both were really accomodating to the group of fans hanging around and spent quite a while chatting with us.
Well done Heather for the great guest spot on the radio show. You’re such a natural! This is the first time I’ve listened to the show but I enjoyed it. I’ll definitely be listening again.
Yeah, they don’t seem like the big-headed type. An ego kept in check always makes for a cool movie star.
Thanks for joining us, Dan. Next week we’re gonna be pretty issue heavy, plus we’ll be reviewing A Single Man, should be plenty of juicy discussion.
That’s a great story Dan. I love to hear about celebs being appreciative and not giant ego monsters.
And thank you! It’s all new to me, so quite the learning experience but Steven and Brian were quite accommodating hosts.
Hell’s yeah! Miss Heather and the Film Cynics all in one place – can’t wait to listen to this. She was a guest on my show back in the spring and made for a really great episode, can’t wait to hear what you guys git her talking about.
Pity you didn’t ask her about her hangover remedy though – it’s legendary.
If I knew it was gonna be that kind of party…
All she had to share this time was a remedy for ignorance. We had a great time talking about Toy Story 3, and I totally wish we had more time to jabber on about The A-Team. Time is always against us…
The morning she appeared on my podcast, I was feeling a little worse for wear (Thanks to an ill-advised pitcher of Fosters). Heather’s suggestion to shake it off? Cucumbers, ranch dressing, pickles and cottage cheese.
Oh, and A-TEAM was awesome…there’s *never* enough time to talk about that one!
So I have a peculiar affection for pickles and dairy product! Ha!
I had no idea there was so much more I could be learning from podcasting. I’ve been living in the dark over here!
Yeah, my A-Team review is forthcoming, and it’s all good news.
I don’t usually do a secondary review if Jim and Jon have covered something, especially if we are all on the same page, but it was too much fun not to write about. I could have spent the whole show blabbing about it with you guys. Thanks for having me on again, it wasn’t just fun, it was uber fun.
Heather was fantastic. It was great to hear a female point of view. Love those top tens. Good job all around!!
P.S. Last I heard Madeline Stowe “retired” to raise kids or something like that.
Hear! Hear! We absolutely need to get more guests of the fairer sex on our show. None of the ladies I know want to appear on the radio though. If you’re a girl who knows a lot about movies, but not too much that it makes Brian and I look stupid, and if you can hold off on using cuss words for about an hour, then you too could be a guest on The Film Cynics.
Apparently Stowe did retire to focus on her family, but that was back in 1996. Since then she’s been unable to jump back in the game, fueling paranoia for women who are thinking of taking a break for the sakes of their own families.
“Lorraine McFly was a hussy” – Heather Roddy
(Easily the podcasting soundbite of the year!)
Is there no one who will defend the honour of Lorraine McFly?
Just because I called her a hussy doesn’t mean that I dislike hussies. She was quite lovely, if it had been anyone other than her *gasp* son, who could have said no to those advances.
You can’t backpeddle now! It’s out there…across the radio waves…on the interweb. No takebacks.
‘Sides, I’m already working on a tribute post to this soundbite.
Okay, she is a hussy. No excuses.
There we go! That’s what we’re all about here: strength in our convictions!
Wow, lotta fun here. Maybe I need to rewatch 12 Monkeys and see that “mind-bending” ending again:)
I know Blade Runner is a classic but I’m just still not sold on it. Seeing it again after Hatter talking me into it, I get ti now but I still have my problems with it.
Great podcast! Been late to listening to these Steve but well done my friend. Catch you next time fellas, for sure!
Thanks Mark! Glad to have you tuning in!
To be 100% honest, I once owned Blade Runner and then gave it away. Gasp! It was great, no doubt, but it wasn’t something that I could watch again and again – and really that was pretty much the point of owning anything I got my hands on. It doesn’t move like your usual sci-fi actioner, it’s got more in common with 2001 than it does with Star Wars. 12 Monkeys however is always worth another look-see. My entire outlook on the meaning of the film changes every few years, and what more can you ask from a sci-fi film other than for it to keep challenging your impressions?
