After watching a very cool video today I realized how Battlestar Galactica has kind of faded from my memory. Most times, if a show is great, it winds up on my shelf to be watched at a later date. Set aside the fact that I never have the time to watch any of the shows I buy anymore, because I’m sure when summertime comes around I might finally be able to sit and enjoy my complete series of Deadwood, but it’s the cost-prohibitve nature of BSG on DVD that means that this brilliant Canadian produced TV show will wind up being the kind of thing I have to wind up recording off TV… which doesn’t quite work the same way in this post VCR age.
Why Battlestar? Why? Why can’t you make yourself more accessible to the least of us?
While we await an answer, why don’t we watch this video:
Have you been watching Caprica? A worthy follow up. Very different but still paying a respectable homage to it’s Mother Ship BSG.
I’ve been so upset with the marketing of Caprica that I put it out of my mind. Not the best reason to pass on a show, I know, but I draw my lines in all kinds of places to keep me from watching everything that’s out there.
I agree, I wasn’t sold on the marketing and kind of fell into watching the pilot, but it’s really a solid show. Not necessarily put it at the top of your list of things to see, but definitely one not to ignore entirely. It’s nowhere near as interesting as Stargate: Universe.
When I think about BSG now in retrospect, I think that what fascinated me about it, and likely many others, was that it was so much more than people expected. Much more. My thoughts on Caprica have always been that it’s intended to be like BSG, so the expectations are set in advance. It always seemed like a recipe for disappointment. I’ll put it on my list though – hopefully it will offer me the chance to see Baltar getting the short end of the stick for once.
