Welcome to the podcast for the modern movie watcher. The Film Cynics were once a pair of surly video store clerks that eventually worked their way into the biz. After bouncing around in the industry for a while, they decided to stay true to the adage of: Those who can’t do, teach. And those who can’t find teaching jobs, create websites so they can spout off about movies and TV and anything in pop culture that catches their short attention spans. In our podcast you’ll be able to tune into our radio show on CFAX 1070.

It could not be any more of an unlikely contender, but we think we might have a modern Canadian classic on our hands. It’s been a long held belief in Canadian culture that heading West represent new hope and opportunity, but when you’re already in Alberta, all you can do is head North!

With nothing on our DVD slate this week, we've got a bit of a mixed bag including organizing Steve's movie collection and measuring the summer's mercenary flicks against each other.

With nothing on our DVD slate this week, we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag including organizing Steve’s movie collection and measuring the summer’s mercenary flicks against each other.

Brian is fresh from seeing The Expendables, so we take some time to see how it measures up against the other mercenary films of the summer. Apparently, casting isn’t everything.

With Steve’s DVD collection pushing the 530 mark, he’s reaching out for help and advice on how to organize everything. Alphabetical? Chronological? Autobiographical? Emotional? What kind of order should they go in?

Brian’s shares his top 5 favourite sketch comedy shows. Be ready for some show you’ve never heard of, and also be prepared for Monty Python to not be on this list.

Brian is tickled pink that Burn Notice is finally making it’s way to Canadian airwaves. Don’t know what Burn Notice is? Brian can explain it for you. He’s also got his impressions on The Good Guys – apparently the news is good.

Man on Wire and Unbreakable are broken out of the Vault, and then there’s just enough time for the trailers for Black Swan and I’m Still Here.

Thanks for tuning in, your feedback is always appreciated.

We've got a review of A Single Man, and the news is good.

We had to wrap early due to a BC Lions game, so once again, a thoughtful discussion about movies and pop-culture is cut short by a bunch of football players. Man, it’s like I’m back in high school. Undaunted, our opening salvo is a double barreled discussion about Canada’s proposed copyright reform bill and encourage you to get involved. With that out of the way, we review A Single Man and the news is good. There’s just enough time on the back end to chat up the trailers for Red and Rango, and that’s it. We promise, no more football related shenanigans again until October.

This week, we review Capitalism: A Love Story and Where the Wild Things Are and get strong opinions on both sides.

Besides our obligation to talk about the Oscars at least a little bit, we manage cough up two DVD reviews this week: Michael Moore’s Capitalism: A Love Story and Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are – with Brian feeling comfortable having both titles in his collection and Steve… well, not so much. Steve also tells Brian all about St. John’s Newfoundland sleuth family dramedy Republic of Doyle (with a detour about the state of his cable service) which leaves us just a sliver of time to break two very special titles out of the Vault, Joy Division biopic Control and underground documentary (literally) Dark Days.

You can listen to the show here subscribe to our podcast here or check us out on iTunes here.
