Welcome to the podcast for the modern movie watcher. The Film Cynics were once a pair of surly video store clerks that eventually worked their way into the biz. After bouncing around in the industry for a while, they decided to stay true to the adage of: Those who can’t do, teach. And those who can’t find teaching jobs, create websites so they can spout off about movies and TV and anything in pop culture that catches their short attention spans. In our podcast you’ll be able to tune into our radio show on CFAX 1070.

Unrivalled in their ability to tell modern American classic films, this latest box set of their material tends to focus more on the Coen Brothers’ later work with The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, The Man Who Wasn’t There, Burn After Reading, A Serious Man, and Intolerable Cruelty. Is their assemblage up to the task up triumphing over the other box sets?

This week we review the Coen Brothers' A Serious Man, Peter Billingsley's Couples Retreat & temporally interrupted adaptation The Time Traveller's Wife.

Despite our listenership dwindling to almost nil for the Super Bowl (why didn’t anybody tell me about this thing?) we had a jam packed show after Steve over-ordered movies to review. So besides our opening commentary about the Oscar nominations, we have reviews for the Coen Brothers’ semi-autobiographical A Serious Man, Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau’s “passion” project Couples Retreat and Eric Bana’s temporally challenged romantic adaptation The Time Traveller’s Wife. You won’t believe which one we liked best until you hear it, and even then you might not believe it. We round out the show with our Picks from the Vault, One Week and The Last Boy Scout and then trailer suggestions for The Losers and Cemetery Junction.

You can listen to the show here subscribe to our podcast here or check us out on iTunes here.
